Two-day trip
With different anchorages every night, The Karoo Queen will take you to unique places on the Gariepdam, rarely visited by others.
Day 1:
The day will start at 14h00 where guest will board the Houseboat. On the houseboat, a spread of the finest canapes and snacks await. A short safety briefing will be conducted to make sure all guest and staff know their way around the boat as well as know the safety rules. Now, let the fun begin, we depart the harbour at around 15h00 and make our way onto the mighty Gariepdam, the biggest dam in South Africa, stretching from the small-town of Gariepdam, 100km long up to the small farming town of Bethulie. A Cash bar is available on-board. A Break-away boat will be available for those who wish to do some fishing. For the more adventurous, a speedboat will take guest water-skiing and enjoy the open waters of Gariepdam. Afternoon snacks will be served as we prepare for sunset.
As the sun sets over the Gariepdam, colouring the skies with the most beautiful colours, we enjoy a sundowner on the deck. Tonight, we enjoy a true Karoo-style dinner, from the entertainment area with its big glass sides to still enjoy the last rays of the sun.
Stargazing after dinner is a must! With no air- or light-pollution, the spectacular night sky shows off its thousand little diamond lights, like you can only experience in the Karoo.

Day 2:
What is better than to start the day watching the sunrise from the deck or even your bedroom on-board. Enjoy early morning tea/coffee/rusks and as the smell of traditional mealie pap porridge or oats fills the crisp clean air, treat yourself with a bowl with lots of butter and sugar.
From 09h00, guest can sit down to a lovely English buffet breakfast, from fresh fruits, cold meats and cheeses to your favourite hot breakfast.
Today, we will cruise to different areas of the mighty Gariepdam, enjoy different sceneries, relax on the deck, enjoy water-sport, bird-watching and game viewing from the boat (or break-away boat) on the surrounding game reserves.
A light lunch will be served.
As the final night of the tour, guests will have the opportunity to set foot on land. With fire lantern lighting the way to our dinner spot. Tonight, dinner will be cooked on an open fire. Guest can take part in the dinner activities by baking their own ‘stock-brood’ to snack on with home-made jams, farm butters and cheeses while the cook prepares a lovely steak on the open fire.
We end the night with S’mores before returning back to the houseboat.

Day 3:
Our last morning on-board the beautiful Karoo Queen. Another scrumptious breakfast will be served as we all reminisce on the time, we had on-board. After breakfast, the Housboat will head back to the harbour at Gariep, a Forever Resort for disembarkation at 10h00.
